Who are we?

We live in Derby and surrounding areas and we meet to engage in activities related to the French language and French-speaking countries: conversation, quizzes and games, social and cultural evenings, talks from experts.  All are welcome to join.  Talks are usually in French, so you will need to understand when other people are speaking (PowerPoint slides help you here) but you do not need to be a fluent French speaker to attend.

 

We meet once a month between October and May, usually on Fridays, from 7.30 pm.  See the Events page for upcoming talks.  

 

In addition, we meet weekly to talk French over a cup of coffee: see "Pause-café" on the Events page.

Doors open at 7.15 pm and refreshments are available at a modest price.

There is a small charge for attendance, or you can become a member by paying an annual fee (please see the Members page for subscription rates)

The origins of Derby French Circle go back to 1924, and the current Circle was relaunched in 1960 by Dr. Ken Burnett. The Circle is affiliated to the Alliance Française de Londres, one of the most renowned French language centres in London.

The Alliance Française de Londres is proud to support French Circle affiliates throughout the country, offering a programme of talks and socio-cultural events.

 

A global network of similar organisations works with us for the mutual enrichment of our cultures.
