The magic of perfumes has fascinated the world since ancient times. In France, the favourable climate of the area in the south around Grasse has made it possible to cultivate those flowers which are key ingredients in the composition of perfumes. Under the aegis of Catherine de Medici, the manufacture of perfumes developed to become the largest luxury industry in France. From the extraction of oils to bottling, we will trace the processes which go into making this product, which is still full of mystery. We will also touch on the problems of imitations and fakes.
