You can :

• become a member and pay an annual fee

• become an associate member and pay a reduced annual fee to attend coffee mornings only (payable from your third meeting onwards)

• or pay as you go to attend one or more evenings as a visitor
   

Membership 2025-2026.............. £30.00 per person (£25 students under 25)

This gives access free of charge to all talks, coffee mornings, book club meetings (limited places). and the AGM, plus the right to attend other meetings for which a charge may be made.

Associate membership 2025-2026......£10 per person

This allows you to attend the weekly coffee mornings (see Events page for details)

Visitors............. £5.00 per screen per talk on Zoom

These Group Rules are to help keep the Derby French Circle a friendly, respectful and attractive group in which to participate and to share and learn about all things French.

Communication:

​

Please be polite, friendly and respectful in all communications, whether written or verbal, and assume that others are trying to be the same.

​

Please use French in the group’s social media platforms and when attending our events (whether these are in person or online).  Please also be mindful of the fact that the vast majority of participants are not mother-tongue French and may not always convey by use of words or expressions, or tone of voice, the message they are trying to communicate, (which also applies in English) so please give others the benefit of the doubt.

When posting on our social media platforms please make your contributions relevant to France and all things French e.g. French culture, language and life plus French-themed events e.g. films, books, and comments on and travel photos from French-speaking countries or areas. Our preference is that events should be in the Derby or Derbyshire area (but not exclusively).  If you believe something may be of interest to members, please do post it.

If, at any time, you are unhappy with the content of any communication within the group (whether written or verbal) please address this via a private message or email to the President who will review (with the committee where necessary) and will then determine any course of action required. Actions could include excluding a member from social media, group chats, events, or the Circle itself, as per clause 4.5 of the Constitution.

 

Your mobile numbers enable the use of the WhatsApp groups, so any member can access them. If you want to contact another member, please ask them first before you use their contact details outside of the group chats.

 

Personal Data:

 

We do collect and hold some personal data when you join or subscribe or sign up to events.  This will be limited to (as a maximum) your name, address, mobile number and email address.  Mobile numbers are used to enable the use of our WhatsApp groups and are visible to other members. Emails are used for group correspondence only and when distributing these you will be blind copied so other members cannot see your email.  We rarely communicate by post. We do not use your data for any commercial or marketing purposes and do not share it with other organisations. We review and delete data periodically of those who have left the group. When joining you agree that the Circle may use your data as described above.  Inter-member correspondence outside our social media platforms must be with the express consent of both parties. Please do not make unsolicited contact with other members using data held on WhatsApp groups or other social media platforms of the Circle unless they have given their prior agreement for you to do so.

 

The Committee will post about upcoming DFC events in the WhatsApp group as well as on our website.

 

Payments and events:

 

We organize regular social events which may require you to notify us that you plan to attend and to pay a deposit in advance.  The success of these events often relies on timely responses to invites and requests for payment so please be prompt.  Whilst we will make every effort to include you after deadlines, we cannot guarantee this.

 

Summary:

 

Our group is inclusive and fully committed to making it a welcoming space for everyone. We believe that by observing these few simple rules we will be successful in this aim.
