Although they often get confused, we will discover that these two artistic movements are, in fact, quite distinct. One of them has exuberant and floral qualities, the other, symmetric and geometric ones. Both have been brought to life by artists from many different domains – architects, sculptors, glassmakers, poster illustrators, jewellers, fashion stylists. With this abundantly illustrated presentation we will recast Art Nouveau and Art Deco in their time and place whilst, at the same time, attempting to explain why they both lost their appeal.
