Avant de devenir française, la Corse a connu des siècles d’occupation. La Corse se trouve au cœur de réseaux commerciaux, initiés par les Grecs. Occupée, la Corse n’est jamais vraiment conquise, les nouveaux venus s’arrêtent en général sur la Côte. Une fois contrôlée par la France, la Corse est oubliée, et son renouveau est lancé par l’arrivée des Rapatriés d’Algérie. La prise de conscience du retard économique et social de l’Ile a poussé une minorité vers la violence. Depuis, la Corse semble à la recherche de son identité et essaye d’affirmer cette identité dans le cadre de l’Etat français.

Before becoming French, Corsica was subject to centuries of occupation. Corsica is situated at the heart of commercial trading routes, started initially by the Greeks. Corsica was occupied but never truly conquered, as newcomers normally set up camp on the coast but went no further. Once under the control of France, Corsica was forgotten, and its revival was kick-started by the arrival of those repatriated from Algeria. Growing awareness of the economic and social backwardness of the island pushed a minority towards violence. Since then, Corsica appears to be seeking its identity and trying to assert this identity within the framework of the French state.
